Commonwealth Games Wrap-Up: Glasgow 2026
Golden Games for Emily and Breanna!
Congratulations to Waverley gymnasts Emily Whitehead and Breanna Scott, and to their coach Yusuf Topari, on an outstanding 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow! We are immensely proud of Emily and Breanna, who wrapped up their artistic gymnastics campaign with a combined haul of medals and performances that rank among the very best in our club's history - both from a performance perspective and a sportsmanship perspective! And we are just as proud of Yusuf, selected as an Australian team coach whose guidance and preparation behind the scenes made this all possible.
This was Breanna's second Commonwealth Games and Emily's third, and what a Games it turned out to be. Together, they and their teammates Georgia Godwin, Kate McDonald and Ruby Pass helped deliver Australia's first team gold medal at a Commonwealth Games since Delhi 2010!
TEAM GOLD - The moment we'd all been waiting for
Australia’s women’s team was unrelenting across all four apparatus, producing a superb display of skill, consistency and determination to secure the gold medal with a score of 158.400. They held their nerve under pressure to finish ahead of Canada (157.300) in silver and England (154.300) in bronze.
Breanna was a standout across the board, contributing a strong 12.850 on Vault, 13.150 on Bars, 12.750 on Floor and a superb 13.600 on Beam - a routine that also booked her spot in the individual Beam Final. Emily was equally strong, delivering 13.300 on Vault and 12.500 on Floor to help the team build an unassailable lead. It was a full-circle moment for Emily in particular, who was part of Australia's silver medal-winning team back in 2022 - this time, the girls went one better and brought home the gold.
SILVER IN THE ALL-AROUND – Wow!
Breanna’s team performance qualified her for the Individual All-Around Final, where she produced four of the most consistent routines of the night to finish with 52.900 points - just 0.150 behind Canada's Ellie Black for gold. A brilliant result and a huge step up in a field packed with the best all-around gymnasts in the Commonwealth.
BEAM GOLD - Breanna's signature moment
Just when we thought the week couldn't get any better, Breanna went on to win gold in the Balance Beam Final with a flawless 13.933, ahead of Singapore's Amanda Yap (13.233) and Canada's Lia-Monica Fontaine (13.000). Beam has long been Breanna's favourite apparatus, and it showed.
"It's kind of crazy, to be honest - it definitely hasn't sunk in yet," Breanna said after the win. "The last three days have just been absolutely wild. The team gold was such a special medal for all of us, and that was really the main goal coming into this. All of us in finals now getting these extra little medals is just topping it off."
That gold made it three medals for Breanna in Glasgow - two gold and a silver - the best Commonwealth Games result of her career so far, and we could not be prouder of how far she has come, or of the coaching partnership with Yusuf and the Waverley team that has driven her rise on the world stage over the past few years.
A third Games, and a career full-circle, for Emily
Emily's individual campaign was every bit as gutsy. She narrowly missed out on the Floor Final, finishing with 12.500 - just outside the top eight cut in an incredibly deep field. Across three Commonwealth Games now - Gold Coast 2018, Birmingham 2022 and Glasgow 2026 - Emily has been a rock for the Australian team, and this time that consistency paid off with the team gold medal that had eluded her. We are so proud of Emily's resilience, professionalism and the sheer consistency she brings to this Australian team, Games after Games.
