WGC Accelerated Levels Testing Program (ALT)
Launched in 1998, the Waverley ALT (Accelerated Levels Testing) program was created to ensure gymnasts develop the skills required for long-term success in competitive gymnastics. This program has been the cornerstone to Waverley's competitive prowess, particularly in setting up gymnasts for long-term success at the Olympics and World Championship levels.
ALT is designed to work alongside the Gymnastics Australia (GA) Routine Program, ensuring that gymnasts build strong technical foundations for elite gymnastics while simultaneously progressing and competing through the competition levels. Gymnasts begin at a coach-assigned ALT level and aim to complete all components - Vault, Bars, Beam, Floor, Strength, Flexibility, and Trampoline throughout the year. Advancement typically takes 12–24 months, depending on the level and gymnasts are awarded achievement badges as they complete each level.
Training time for all our squad gymnasts is carefully divided between competition skills/routine development and ALT skill development to ensure our gymnasts build the foundational skills needed for potential long-term success at the highest international levels.
Squad Program Pathways
WGC’s Competitive Squad Pathway guides gymnasts from their very first competition to those striving for National and International representation. Along the way, we nurture technical excellence, confidence, and a lifelong love of gymnastics, providing clear pathways for growth and achievement.
Our youngest athletes begin in the Foundation area, where they develop the essential skills that form the base for long-term success in competitive gymnastics. Through local competitions, they build strength, coordination, and confidence over two to three years before progressing to the Development area.
In the Development stage, gymnasts refine their routines, increase their skill difficulty, and continue advancing through the WGC Accelerated Level Testing program. They gain valuable Division 1 competition experience across Victoria and interstate, typically spending two to four years preparing for higher-level competition.
From here, gymnasts may advance to either our senior National or senior International squads, where they represent Waverley at State level, Victoria at National level, and for some, Australia on the world stage. These athletes embody dedication, resilience, and passion as they pursue excellence in their sport and inspire the next generation of WGC gymnasts.
