High Performance Support Facilities
Our Amazing Gym
In 2021, Waverley Gymnastics Centre opened its new 7.4 million, custom-built home at Oakleigh Recreation Centre, thanks to significant government funding and club fundraising.
More than double the size of our previous venue, our facility features state-of-the-art equipment, dedicated recovery and wellness spaces, family-friendly amenities including permanent spectator seating, and hands down one of the best competitive training environments in Australia.
Our facility includes 16 beams (including a permanent podium beam), 4 vaults, 2 full FIG floors, 15 bars (including a channel bar), 6 in-ground trampolines, multiple foam and resi pits, 5 video replay systems, 10 bungees, vault catapult system, a state of the art strength and flexibility area, dedicated ballet area and the world’s longest Tumble Trak - ensuring our gymnasts train with the very latest in gymnastics innovation.
Gymnast Wellness and Recovery Centre
Our world-class Gymnast Wellness and Recovery Centre is a purpose-built facility designed to support the physical and mental well-being of our higher-level gymnasts. This incredible new space features four hot and cold plunge pools, two state-of-the-art massage chairs, and a range of recovery support aids that together facilitates injury management, hot/cold therapy, myotherapy, pilates, muscle recovery, injury prevention, and overall performance enhancement.
Beyond its physical benefits, the room also offers a calm, restorative environment where athletes can relax, reset, and recharge between training blocks - supporting both body and mind.
This long-awaited project has been brought to life through the vision and dedication of our leadership team and committee, with the significant support of Monash Council, who co-funded, collaborated, and project-managed its development. Importantly, it also helps ease the financial burden on families by providing accessible, ongoing recovery and myotherapy support at no cost to our gymnasts.
Physiotherapy
Our highly qualified and experienced physiotherapists offer on-site treatment at WGC every Tuesday and Friday in our well-equipped professional treatment rooms led by renowned Sports Physiotherapist Specialist - Jenni Candler. These treatment rooms were custom-designed as part of our redevelopment, in collaboration with our physiotherapists and coaching team, and offer generous space alongside state-of-the-art treatment facilities.
Our Physiotherapy service delivers immediate and ongoing support to athletes, while also prioritising prevention through comprehensive annual screenings that strengthen prehab practices within the gym. Appointments can be accessed by all WGC gymnasts and their families by contacting our Membership team at the front desk or on 9887 9611.
Nutrition
Waverley is proud to have a longstanding partnership with advanced Sports Dietician Helen Duong, who delivers specialised nutritional services and guidance tailored to the requirements of competitive gymnastics.
Our renowned ‘Skybox’ provides an ideal setting for theory-based nutrition workshops, while our expansive kitchen is perfectly suited to hands-on nutrition sessions, including activities such as smoothie making.
Our tailored nutrition curriculum features both theoretical and practical sessions for our squad gymnasts and families, enhancing health literacy and educating our athletes and their families on how to fuel effectively to meet energy needs, recovery and peak performance in training/competition as well as for lifelong health. Helen also provides individual consultations when requested by families.
Strength and Conditioning (S&C)
Our senior S&C program is delivered in Monash’s new, state of the art fitness studio (next door to our gym), equipped with professional-grade weight machines and training facilities.
These S&C facilities feature a comprehensive range of cardio equipment (including treadmills and ellipticals), strength machines, free weights, and versatile functional training spaces.
We partner with experienced Strength and Conditioning coaches from ACE Performance to deliver a progressive, structured S&C program for our squad gymnasts aged 11 years and above.
Strength and conditioning is an essential component of competitive gymnastic preparation, injury prevention and rehabilitation. Our S&C coaches adopt a long-term athlete development approach, which ensures training is appropriate for each gymnast’s age stage of growth and development.
Pilates
We are fortunate to have access to the Monash ORC dedicated Pilates Reformer studio, conveniently located next to our gym. This purpose-built, state-of-the-art space provides an ideal environment for our senior Pilates classes, supporting focused and high-quality Reformer Pilates training. The studio is equipped with traditional Pilates reformer equipment (Stott Pilates beds), designed to develop core strength, enhance posture, improve muscle tone and flexibility, and promote efficient, well-controlled movement.
Our Junior Pilates classes are delivered in a dedicated, spacious Strength and Conditioning area within our gym, providing an ideal environment for focused movement and skill development.
Our physiotherapists hold specialist accreditation and training enabling them to deliver weekly Pilates sessions (both reformer and non-reformer) for gymnasts in our Development, National, and International squads.
Pilates focuses on developing core strength, flexibility and overall conditioning to provide exceptional supplementary support to gymnastics training.
