It's official! We have three Waverley members going to the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games! A massive congratulations to Emily Whitehead, Romi Brown and Jessica Mason for their selection to the Australian Commonwealth Games Team. Both Emily and Romi had outstanding performances at the Australian National Championships in May to secure their places on the Australian Team.
This will be Emily's second Commonwealth Games. Emily won an individual bronze on vault at her last Commonwealth Games and she is looking fighting fit to defend that title in July. Emily has had a very busy competition season following Tokyo Olympics last year and has continued her fantastic form with strong performances at the DtB Pokal Cup and Australian Nationals.
This will be Romi's first Commonwealth Games. We congratulate Romi on a fantastic preparation leading up to the trials! Romi worked incredibly hard in her prep to return from injury and her hard work certainly showed on the floor at Nationals to secure her place on the Australian Team.
Finally, we are so incredibly proud of Jessica Mason who has been selected as an Australian Team coach. This will be Jess's first Commonwealth Games as well. Jess is an above and beyond coach who has developed so much as a coach in her 12 years at Waverley. We are so excited to see what she can achieve on the world stage and so proud of Jess for achieving a big career milestone!
Waverley also wants to thank all the coaches involved in Emily and Romi's preparation for Commonwealth Games. Thank you to all the support staff involved in the coaching, physical and medical preparation for Emily and Romi. We couldn't have done it without you!
Congratulations to Emily, Romi and Jess who will be heading off to Europe later in July!
