UPDATE AS AT THURSDAY 1st DECEMBER:

Victorian Minister for Sport, John Eren, has announced funding of $3 million towards the Oakleigh Pool and Recreation Centre redevelopment, which would include our brand new, custom built gymnastics facility!

This move is now dependent on the previously committed Federal funding still being available. We firmly believe that long-time Waverley supporter Julia Banks MP is doing everything she can to confirm Liberal's $2.1 million election commitment is contributed to the new venue, which resides within the Electorate of Chisholm and the City of Monash.

We are very excited to share with everyone the high level concept drawings of the proposed design for the Oakleigh redevelopment:

Second Level (click to view)

As you can see the space allocated to gymnastics is basically the equivalent of 3 basketball courts (two and a half times our current gym space!) which is absolutely incredible - and this doesn't even include the additional reception/amenities/office space!

We potentially have some very exciting news regarding the upgrade/redevelopment of our Mt Waverley campus! An incredible opportunity has become available to relocate our gymnastics centre to a brand new, custom built facility located at the Oakleigh Pool and Recreation Centre (2 Park Road, Oakleigh).

Last night the Monash Council voted to support this move and committed $11.9-$13.9 million to the entire Oakleigh project including the WGC gymnastics facility, 5 basketball/netball courts and a host of other upgrades.

This move would be an incredible opportunity to become arguably one of the best gymnastics facilities in Australia, however is dependent on the previously committed Federal funding of $2.1 million still being available, and a new State Better Indoor Stadiums grant of $3 million coming through - fingers crossed!!

This new venue (only 9 minutes from our current Mt Waverley campus) will give us:

- More than double the size of our current gym (and much larger than the planned increased gym size with the redevelopment of Dorrington Drive)
- Permanent upstairs viewing area for parents as well as capacity for 300 retractable seats for events
- Includes $500,000 worth of gymnastics equipment
- Brand new change rooms, lockers, toilets and reception
- New medical rooms
- New larger office space
- Custom designed special needs area
- and much more!
